Getting Results Without Authority

Learn how to influence people who don't work for you to get the results you need with featured speaker Larry Ray and get insights into AMA's Communication Skills Course on this topic.

In the current environment of reduced resources, challenges include organizational restructuring, tight deadlines and multiple projects. The people with whom you interact can change on a moment's notice. It is essential to learn how to adapt quickly and work with anyone to achieve desired results — especially when you don't have immediate authority to command their cooperation.

This briefing, specifically designed for government Human Capital Management and Training and Development professionals, will focus on the key elements of influencing others when there is lack of authority — personal power, persuasion and negotiation. You'll learn how to effectively use your power base to persuade others, influence people while projecting self-confidence without being pushy, and identify various negotiating techniques that promote win-win outcomes.

The briefing will cover:

  • Understanding your personal power
  • Principles of reciprocity
  • Blind spots in your self-knowledge
  • Key components of persuasion: discovery, preparation, dialogue
  • Understanding the world of the other person
  • The role of investment and risk in persuasion
  • Approaches to conflict resolution
  • Using a win-win mindset
  • Getting better results through negotiation, including power, information and timing approach, and various steps in negotiation

All attendees will receive a copy of the book Results Without Authority by Tom Kendrick, as our thank you.

Reserve your place today! Seating is limited. Please RSVP or call1.800.526.1305 by October 17, 2014.
