Software Defined Network For Defense And National Security

As the global defense and national security missions continue to grow, DoD and government planners face the daunting challenge of designing and providing the end-to-end strategic and tactical network that will be needed for future operations. More capacity and speed, mobility and anytime-anywhere services, consolidation and streamlining of data and communications operations, moving to the cloud, virtualization – these and many other challenges and capabilities must be considered in planning the future network. One key potential technology for significantly improving network manageability and security in large-scale, dynamically complex networks is Software Defined Networking (SDN). SDN moves network management functions out of hardware, routers and switches and into programmable software management and control capabilities.

This outstanding symposium gathers together the government and industry experts who are planning the network of the future for defense and national security operations. They will outline DoD and Service plans for network modernization and provide updates on current and future programs, initiatives and priorities. In addition, they will examine potential roles and missions for SDN, both for fixed facilities and at the tactical edge.
