Common Critical Missions
CES Government will examine technology and policy issues central to air, land and water ports of entry. The two-day program maps the information matrix between multiple jurisdictions of government and the commercial sector in addition to the myriad technologies that drive port operations and elaborate information sharing business processes. Focus technologies include:

  • Best practice document management systems
  • RFID and tracking technologies, from C4ISR to GIS systems
  • IT security technologies: from employee and vehicle identification to immigration and travel to data to SOC operations at all levels of government
  • Physical security technologies: sensor and radar – air, land and sea
  • Collection, storage, and analytic tools for managing “big data”

Unprecedented Business Opportunities

  • The Federal government recognizes 1,500 land ports of entry along the U.S. southern border alone, over 300 sea and river ports with more than 3,700 cargo and passenger terminals and more than 5,000 U.S. airports open to general public and 500 for commercial services: all driven by IT and communication systems.
  • 63 major U.S. ports project technology-driven infrastructure improvements of more than $46 billion over the next five years.
  • For US-bound goods produced abroad, the U.S. Customs and Border Protection(CBP) manages disciplined security processes from point of production to packing and shipping to ultimate unloading at U.S. sea, air and land ports. CBP collects and disseminates cargo import and export data to 48 interested federal agencies.
  • The federal government seeks to implement unified recognition systems for all air, land and sea port employees and vehicles.
  • 16,000 vehicles go in and out of the Port of Long Beach every day and more than six million containers pass through this key West Coast facility annually.
  • The federal government is responsible for all waterways connecting to US port facilities.
  • The Border Patrol has a workforce of over 21,000 agents assigned to patrol the more than 6,000 miles of America's land borders. The Border Patrol has an operating budget of $1.4 billion to patrol 6,000 miles of America’s land borders, which provides for operations coordinated by 20 sector offices.
