Spurring Innovation, Lowering Risk: Adopting Agile Development in Government

This event qualifies for 1 CEUs

Government relies on technology to develop new ways to deliver services to the citizen. At the same time, Congress and the White House have historically kept a tight rein on high risk I.T. projects that incur costly delays while contributing little to mission-related outcomes. To lower the risk and to innovate in the face of rapidly changing technologies, the Office of Management and Budget recommends that agencies abandon multiyear development in favor of the use of modular, agile software methodologies. The government must also mature its modular and agile implementation from a project by project approach to establish a new IT development and operation culture and discipline throughout a department or bureau.

We’ll hear from the CIOs of the Executive Office of the President, the U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services and the Department of Veterans Affairs who will speak about how your agency can turn around troubled projects, introduce innovative approaches, and mature your agency to better achieve the mission using modular and agile methodologies. We will also hear from a professor who is an expert on adapting cultural change and action planning for implementing agile management.

Luncheon Discussion Format:
Over lunch, agency agile and modular development subject matter experts will lead discussions at each table about key aspects of modular implementation in areas such as:

  • Acquisition for Agile and Modular
  • Budgeting & Measuring for Agile
  • Building the Agile Development Organization
  • Deployment in Agile Management
  • People, Training and Agile Competencies

Attendees will be encouraged to provide their top interest choices and we will attempt to match you at a table with the appropriate subject matter expert.

AFFIRM will grant Continuing Education Units (CEUs) for eligible attendees. Attendance is complimentary to all Government Members.
