The Business Case for Cloud Computing in Government

This event qualifies for 1 CPEs

The White House’s Cloud First Federal IT policy has given agencies firm direction to look to the cloud for data management solutions, and public sector organizations have embraced the benefits.  The technology aspects of cloud computing are well known to agency CIOs and their staffs, but the development of a solid business case is a critical first step.  Complicating the development of the business case is the fact that agencies are dealing with hybrid environments that may include on-premise and off-premise data facilities, public clouds and government-owned clouds.

This webinar will discuss what agencies need to know to translate the benefits of cloud computer to dollars and cents.

We’ll explore:
  • Factors to take into account when calculating cost savings such as lower facility costs, lessened FTE cost while repurposing agency staff to other priorities, and increased productivity.

  • Non-cost benefits such as agility, scalability.

  • Acquisition mandates that facilitate success when acquiring managed services.

  • Considerations to successfully migrate in and out of the cloud with an eye toward when, why, and how.

  • How to structure contracts to ensure successful cloud deployments.

  • Who should be on the cloud strategy team – CIO, CTO, CFO, or architects.

  • How to overcome challenges such as privacy and security when migrating to the cloud.
