First Thursday Seminar: Executive Order 13693: Recent Developments, Implementation Updates, and Opportunities

The U.S. Department of Energy Federal Energy Management Program (FEMP) will present a new First Thursday Seminar on December 3, 2015 from 1:30 pm to 3:30 pm: E.O. 13693: Recent Developments and Implementation Updates.

 

The seminar will cover major goals of E. O. 13693 and provide examples of technologies and concepts the Department of Energy and other federal agencies are using to meet the goals. The seminar will also cover assistance that FEMP provides to other federal agencies, with a special focus on how to use performance contracting, including UESCs and ESPCs, to meet E.O. 13693 compliance goals.

 

Course instructors will also offer guidance on how to use performance contracting, including UESCs and ESPCs, to meet E.O. 13693 compliance goals.

 

After completing this foundational course, learners will be able to:

  • Understand provisions outlined in Executive Order 13693 and how these differ from previous Executive Orders
  • Identify strategies for implementing and financing E.O. 13693 provisions
  • Determine opportunities to customize E.O 13693 strategic sustainability plans for individual agencies and missions

The instructors for this First Thursday Seminar are John Shonder, Director of the U.S. Department of Energy’s Sustainability Performance Office (SPO), and Josh Silverman, Director of the U.S. Department of Energy’s Office of Sustainability Support.

 

After completing a course evaluation and multiple-choice assessment, participants will receive a certificate of completion and be eligible for continuing education units.  

 

First Thursday Seminars are designed for Federal energy and facility managers, but are open to all individuals through the FEMP training database. Courses are hosted in partnership with the National Institute of Building Sciences Whole Building Design Guide.

Speaker and Presenter Information

John Shonder is the director of the U.S. Department of Energy’s Sustainability Performance Office (SPO). Most recently, Shonder served as program manager for Oak Ridge National Laboratory’s support to the U.S. Department of Energy's Federal Energy Management Program. In this role, he managed efforts to increase the value of performance-based contracts to federal agencies

 

Josh Silverman is director of the U.S. Department of Energy’s (DOE) Office of Sustainable Environmental Stewardship. Silverman supports DOE sites and offices with minimizing the environmental impacts from their mission-related activities, emphasizing integrated, collaborative approaches to implementing effective sustainability and environmental programs.
