The U.S. Department of Energy (DOE) Federal Energy Management Program (FEMP)
will present a new First Thursday Seminar, Federal Thought Leaders Roundtable,from 1:30 to 3:00 pm EST on June 2, 2016.

 

FEMP Director Timothy Unruh will facilitate a round table discussion on cutting edge topics among senior agency officials. Federal energy and environmental leaders will share insights and discuss sustainability goals, policies, and initiatives. Panelists will review innovative project case studies, and share insights and strategies for replicating them. Video case studies will include the following:

Deep energy retrofits achieved through an ESPC

The panelists for this First Thursday Seminar are Dr. Timothy Unruh, Director of the Federal Energy Management Program (FEMP), Christine Harada, Federal Chief Sustainability Officer for the White House Council on Environmental Quality, Kevin Kampschroer, Chief Sustainability Officer at GSA, and Lisa A. Jung, Deputy Assistant Secretary of Defense for Installation Energy within the Office of the Assistant Secretary of Defense for Energy, Installations and Environment.

 

This course will help learners to:

  • Recognizing opportunities for deep energyretrofits funded through an Energy Savings Performance Contact (ESPC)
  • Assessing high-performance energy, water, and materials systems and integrated technologies
  • Identifying smart building automation systems that reduce energy use and greenhouse gas emissions

Speaker and Presenter Information

Dr. Timothy Unruh is the director of the Federal Energy Management Program (FEMP) in the U.S. Department of Energy's (DOE) Office of Energy Efficiency and Renewable Energy. As FEMP Director, Dr. Unruh oversees the implementation of policy and actions that result in energy efficiency implementation, renewable energy adoption, and reductions in energy and water use in federal government operations. In this capacity, Dr. Unruh coordinates with DOE national laboratories and other federal agencies. Dr. Unruh has doctoral, master's, and bachelor’s degrees in electrical engineering from Wichita State University in Wichita, Kansas.

 

Christine Harada is the Federal chief sustainability officer for the White House Council on Environmental Quality, where she is responsible for advancing Federal sustainability practices and policies. Previously, Christine served as the associate administrator for governmentwide policy at the U.S. General Services Administration and as a consultant for Boston Consulting Group, Booz Allen Hamilton, and Lockheed Martin. Christine attended the Wharton School of Business at the University of Pennsylvania, where she received an MBA in finance and an M.A. in international studies. She also holds a B.S. in aeronautics and astronautics from MIT and an M.S. in aeronautics and astronautics from Stanford.

 

Kevin Kampschroer is the chief sustainability officer at the U.S. General Services Administration (GSA), where he also serves as director of the office of Federal high-performance green buildings. Kevin manages all sustainability work and leads the agency in planning for climate change risks. He has more than 39 years of experience with GSA and is a graduate of Yale University.

 

Lisa A. Jung is the deputy assistant secretary of defense for installation energy within the Office of the Assistant Secretary of Defense for Energy, Installations, and Environment. Lisa is responsible for policy and oversight of the department’s installation and facility energy programs with a primary focus on improving energy performance of U.S. Department of Defense installations and achieving mandated administration and department goals. Prior to this position, Lisa served in numerous positions at the Office of the Secretary of Defense.
