Elevating the Government Chief Data Officer (CDO)/Enterprise Data Executive (EDE) Training Workshop

This event qualifies for 7 CPEs

Overview:

This one day Potomac Forum workshop will focus on taking organizational CDO/EDEs to the next level within their respective organizations, based on lessons learned and best practices.  In order to be effective, CDOs require specific prerequisites or risk becoming casualties.  Paramount among these is the need for an organizational data strategy.  Without a well understood and organizationally accepted data strategy, governmental organizations risk defusing their effectiveness when faced with current organizational readiness. Other topics  include:

  • Obtaining qualified leadership for data initiatives
  • Understanding the underpinnings of data-centric thinking
  • Establishing the proper relationship between data programs and IT projects
  • Maintaining appropriate expectations/articulating success:
  • Understanding how to successfully implement data-based strategies:
  • Implementing a successful organizational change management strategy:

The Chief Data Officer’s primary focus is that:  Data are assets that deserve to be managed as professionally and aggressively as comparable organizational assets. Studies show that only about 10% of organizations actually achieve a positive return on their investments in data. In the face of the accelerating "data explosion," this leaves most organizations unprepared to leverage a non-degrading, strategic asset. Organizations that successfully create CDOs will achieve improved organizational performance results.

In today’s information-driven environment, this requires data strategy that enables organizations to keep their eye on the ball amidst other organizational distractions.  Utilizing various case studies and client experiences, this workshop will help you understand the basics of data strategy development by demonstrating how to establish realistic goals and expectations, and how to demonstrate the value of such action to both internal and external decision makers.
