Defense Systems Summit: JIE and the New Military Landscape

This event qualifies for 5 CPEs

While serving as the Army G-6 and CIO, Lt. Gen. Robert S. Ferrell once referred to the Joint Information Environment as an “operational imperative.” JIE, while not a formal program, is a driving force behind DOD-wide efforts to modernize networks, strengthen security, and improve the flow of information across the individual services and in the joint environment.

JIE reflects a broader interest in providing a cohesive framework to guide network and systems modernization efforts across the department. In the past, the adoption of new technology often resulted in the development of disparate networks and new information silos. The goal now is to leverage cloud, virtualization, mobility and related IT trends to break down barriers and create a seamless operational environment.

At this event, DOD leaders will discuss current and emerging JIE-related priorities and how this initiative will transform DOD operations.
Potential topics include:

  • JRSS and the vision of a single security architecture
  • JIE and secure mobility
  • The future of MilCloud
  • Progress toward improving identity, credential and access management
  • Balancing the needs for standardization and customization
  • Extending JIE to the tactical edge
