Twenty-five years ago, the Federal Acquisition Streamlining Act (FASA) opened the door for government to procure commercially available technology “to the maximum extent practicable” to meet agency requirements. Since then, there has been significant regulatory and statutory preference for the use of proven commercial products that can eliminate the need for research and development, minimize acquisition lead-time, and reduce the need for detailed design specifications or expensive product testing.
This webinar will explore the spirit and rationale behind the imperative that agencies favor commercially available items as their first choice.
