BITS BY THE BAY - The SMPTE-DC Section 2013 Annual Technology Conference



The Bits By The Bay conference is an annual two-day technology conference produced by members of the Washington DC section of SMPTE on the shores of the Chesapeake Bay. The conference offers an immersive educational experience in the foundations and advancements of audio and video technology for television. We also offer attendees plenty of opportunities for socialization and networking. Everyone is welcome to attend - you do not have to be a SMPTE member. Our conference has sold out every year, so please be sure to register and also book your hotel room early. We look forward to seeing you at the 2013 Bits By The Bay!

Agenda
On Monday we present sessions designed to strengthen your technical foundation. This year we're
offering a super-session on IP and Networking fundamentals for broadcasters, which includes video
over IP, QA for IP video, ethernet A/V Bridging and the long-term outlook for IP replacing
conventional routing. Additional topics on Monday will include a model for remote switching in the
event of disaster, a roadmap for video compression, and presentations on video archiving.
 
On Tuesday we present the latest advancements in technology from acquisition to playout. Topics
include acquisition in using bonded cellular systems, editing in the cloud, advancements in playout
automation, CALM loudness and web caption compliance, and new compression technologies. We'll also
look at spectrum repacking and the challenges facing broadcasters and the FCC as they try to squeeze
more users into a finite spectrum. Finally we'll wrap up the day with a panel discussion on the
challenges in creating and maintaining facilities in the context of ever-changing requirements and
technologies.
