Way Beyond the Beltway: Events in Alaska

As was likely the response to our post on events in Hawaii, you're probably thinking there is no way Alaska makes sense for your event. While that may be the case for many, it is worth noting that in Alaska nearly 30% of the workforce are  government workers.  Relatively close by, Washington state also has an above average number of government employees.

Current federal job openings across the state show a wide variety of job types and departments. From Interior, to Justice, to Defense, to Commerce, there is a broad range of federal programs and work across the state. If you think travel cutbacks have been hard in your department, imagine how staff in Alaska feel when every training event requires a lengthy plane ride and hotel stay. It just may be worth taking your message and event to the "last frontier." It might even help you stand out from the competition.

Here are a couple venues perfect for the much needed face-to-face events for professionals across the state:

Westmark Hotels - with locations in Anchorage, Juneau, and Fairbanks, the Westmark hotels provide the traditional conference center amenities with a variety of meeting rooms, AV, and on-site catering.

The Carlson Center - located in Fairbanks, the Carlson Center hosts sporting events and concerts as well as hosting corporate events in one (or more) of their three meeting rooms. Catering is provided onsite.

Ginger - Anchorage has a large number of national chain hotels that are great venues for your event, but if you are looking for a more intimate locale, Ginger is centrally located and highly praised for its Pacific-Rim cuisine.

Cinemark Movie Theater -Take your power points to a whole new level on the big screen. This Anchorage theater rents out space to organizations.

Prospector Hotel - able to accommodate small meetings and groups as large as 150, this Juneau hotel is a great, local option for events.

How about you? Any Alaskan event planners want to share your tips?
