Advanced Improvised Explosive Devices (IED's)



The Advanced Improvised Explosive Devices workshop is designed to address the growing threat of terrorists’ tactics, techniques and procedures utilizing improvised explosive devices. With the ever present ability to easily acquire materials necessary to construct improvised explosive devices, there is a need to educate and familiarize first responders to the fundamentals of common explosive ordnance, explosive detection systems, CBRNE threats and safety concerns and apply these factors to searching for hazardous devices in a facility based environment.

What You Will Learn:

  • HME Awareness
  • Explosive Detection Systems
  • Basic EOD Familiarization
  • Enemy Tactics, Techniques and Procedures (TTP)
  • Search Procedures


Attendees Will:

  • Receive a IED indicator checklist
  • Become familiar with how explosives work
  • Become familiar with how explosive devices are constructed and their usage
  • Achieve a basic understanding of electronics
  • Become familiar with WMDs (CBRNE)
  • Become familiar with HME
  • Understand the need for explosive detection systems and what is available to the end user
  • Learn the safety precautions and proper response when dealing with IEDs
  • Discuss terrorist TTPs
  • Participate in a practical exercise highlighting search procedures
