Navigating the GSA Schedule System

The GSA Multiple Award Schedules Program is one of the most widely used federal contract vehicles and may also be used by state and local governments to purchase commercial services and products. These contracts continue to be the go-to source for federal buying, with almost $40B in sales in FY12, and are a common point of entry for commercial and emerging companies new to federal contracting.

However, many myths still exist about the Schedules Program and the reality of getting a GSA Schedule contract awarded has changed significantly over the last few years. Understanding the basics of the GSA Schedules, as well as the risks and benefits, is critical to making the best business decision before submitting and negotiating an offer.

Pursuing any government contract is an investment of resources, so make sure you are armed with the knowledge you need to be successful, especially because a GSA Schedule contract can ultimately be a 20-year contract with the federal government to purchase your services and products.
