26th Biennial Wisconsin Apprenticeship Conference



Apprenticeship is driven by industry and supported by an array of workforce development and educational stakeholders.  The more than 500 attendees will include:

  • the Apprenticeship Community including employers, employer associations, labor and employees
  • the Workforce Development Community including workforce development boards, community based organizations, Job Service and Veteran Service representatives
  • the Education community including high school students, teachers and counselors; and Wisconsin Technical College System employees

This year, the Advisory Council looks forward to welcoming more high school students and staff from throughout the state!

Apprentice Expo

The awesome flexibility of apprenticeship in providing hands-on learning to a diverse range of occupations will be on full display at the Expo.  Participate in engaging, interactive displays and demonstrations from occupations in the Construction, Manufacturing, Service and Utility sectors. 
Get to know apprenticeship, past and present, through theatre-style video presentations.

The Expo will be held in the Wisconsin Dells Center at Chula Vista Resort. Free shuttle service will be provided.

Workshops

Learn what makes apprenticeship the solution to the need for skilled workers...and the challenges it faces. The conference offers four workshops "tracks":

Challenge of a Changing Workforce:

  • Population shortages
  • Worker & Skill shortages
  • Generational Differences
  • Technology

Challenge of Partnership in the Workforce System:

  • Introductory "101" workshops to help audience understand more about a program, such as Apprenticeship, Workforce Investment Act, Youth Apprenticeship, Department of Public Instruction, and the Wisconsin Technical College System
  • Continuation of Collaborate for Success Initiative

Challenge of Program Operations & Regulation:

  • Apprenticeship Regulations
  • Child Labor Laws
  • UI Benefits (apprentice and sponsor perspective)
  • Licensing (Barbering & Cosmetology)

Challenge of Awareness & Outreach:

  • Working with the K-12 System
  • Recruitment of Apprenticeship Sponsors

Nationally recognized keynote speakers Mark Breslin and Anirban Basu Presentations by Dennis Winters, Chief Economist for the WI Department of Workforce Development, and state labor leaders
