Disaster Response Summit

Federal Allies Contracting Summit at Hogan Lovells

DISASTER RESPONSE SUMMIT PREPAREDNESS, OPERATIONS, RELIEF & RECONSTRUCTION

Co-Sponsors Include: Disaster Recovery Contractors Association

Every year, U.S. Military forces and private sector contractor firms are assigned critical missions and tasks in support of populations and communities across the Globe that have been critically impacted by Natural or Man-made disasters and conflicts.

These events range from hurricanes, cyclones, earthquakes and tsunamis to civil wars and genocides, most occurrences displacing thousands of people, disrupting communities and civil functions, and generating ad hoc refugee camps that strain infrastructure and services in the host countries.

Government agencies and Military commands with mandates to respond to such emergency situations are constantly searching for more effective procedural, logistic, and technological solutions to better mitigate the effects of these disasters.  And private sector industries, small and large businesses alike, are finding that this expanding field offers increasingly remunerative rewards to those companies that can develop effective solutions.

The size of this industry has increased dramatically considering FEMA obligated over $100 billion in Federal funding for Hurricane Katrina and Sandy has surpassed $70 billion in funding for recovery related projects – just to cite domestic U.S. spending.

It is in recognition of the rising importance of this contracting sector, that we invite interested parties and stakeholders to come and hear discussions and briefings on the latest issues, challenges, perspectives and technical innovations in this area, from those that have been on the front lines of disaster preparedness policy, rescue and relief coordination, and reconstruction/continuity-of-operations planning.
