Leveraging Mobile Technology to Extend eGovernment's Reach and Scope

Modern public administrations aim at providing efficient, open and citizen-centric public services, while reducing users' administrative burden and minimising costs. In this view, public sector innovation and modernisation are key elements for Europe's economic strength and competitiveness. At the same time the availability of mobile Internet continuously changes daily life, in the sense that mobile phones are becoming the most rapidly adopted technology in history.

Therefore, the adoption of mobile Government aims to use mobile technologies and platforms to deliver eGovernment services.

Event Topics and Questions:
-Is there a fundamental difference between making a service work on a PC and on a mobile device that justifies special attention for mGovernment?
-In what ways have mobile services changed the online interaction models?
-How can public administrations promote a better user experience through mGovernment?
-How can we meet device diversity? How do end users benefit?
-What are the lessons learned from various countries (e.g. Scandinavia, the Netherlands, France, Estonia, Australia, England, New Zealand) concerning the application of mGovernment services?
-What are the spheres of activity for public, private or public-private and how vital are cooperations for producing better mGovernment services (overlaps, synergies, obstacles)?
-What are the prerequisites for mGovernment in terms of technical infrastructure – broadband, WiFi-coverage, etc.?
