How and Why to Engage Citizens in Online Challenges

Web Manager University is partnering with GSA's Center for New Media and Citizen Engagement to bring you this FREE webinar with tips and strategies for engaging citizens in online challenges. You may know that the Open Government Directive calls for agencies to engage citizens using challenges, but did you know that challenges are a great way to:

• Motivate, inspire, and guide the public to solve tough challenges;

• Change the perception of what's possible;

• Identify the goal without first choosing the approach or team most likely to succeed;

• Pay only for performance;

• Gain better solutions and tap the wisdom of crowds;

• Attract new people to join the challenge;

• Stimulate private sector investment.

From USDA's Apps for Healthy Kids Contest to the Department of Education's Open Innovation Portal, agencies are using challenges to foster incredible innovation with minimal resources. With GSA's upcoming launch of Challenge.gov, a government-wide platform for agencies and citizens to connect around challenges, these webinars will provide critical training on how to identify challenge opportunities, structure rules and prizes, and put challenges at the center of your Open Government strategy.
