** NEW DATE **

The mission of the Cyber Conference is to provide a forum for small and mid-sized businesses in Howard County and the region to access industry and government leaders with current information on cybersecurity that will improve their market position, enhance their corporate security policies and infrastructure, identify potential business opportunities, and provide information and contacts that assist businesses in understanding the role they play in national cybersecurity and how they can address challenges.

BREAKOUT SESSIONS

  •  Health IT
Health Information Technology (HIT) promises important benefits for individuals, health care providers, and the nation’s health care system. With HIT we can advance clinical care delivery, improve patient outcomes, and reduce costs. At the same time, these technologies present new challenges and opportunities for protecting the security and privacy of individual’s information. With the goal of enabling attendees to strike the right balance between their operational needs and the risks to which they are exposed, this panel will briefly explore key topics affecting the healthcare industry relating to information security and privacy, including cybersecurity, mobile applications, medical devices, cloud computing, authentication requirements, health information exchanges and identity management. We will also briefly examine the technology trends and products available to aid healthcare organizations in advancing their information security and privacy practices, offering practical advice on preparing risk assessments to justify new technologies.
  • Big Data & Analytics
Cyber-attacks are becoming more sophisticated every day, exposing the limitations of our existing cyber defenses which are lagging behind in development. Big data analytics hold great promise in meeting the challenge of preventing cyber-attacks, but there are still hurdles to overcome. Gartner states that the adoption of big data analytics is on the rise, but that vendors have barely begun to prove the effectiveness of their big data analytics software. The potential has yet to be fulfilled. This panel will discuss the challenges and promises of applying big data techniques to cybersecurity defenses, and features to look for when choosing a big data platform.
  • Mobile IT
While mobile technology continues to create new opportunities for marketing, sales and employee productivity, it does pose many challenges. Smartphones, tablet pcs, and laptops create a multitude of security concerns in network access control, device identification, and application development for all manner of organizations. As the workplace changes to proactively address the technological advances of a mobile workplace environment, businesses must balance the risk of the “any time; anywhere” connectivity of employees, customers and guests with using their corporate and personal devices to conduct business. Best practices and case studies will be presented by the panel members to address wireless architecture, access, management, compatibility and security of wireless enterprise approaches for mobility of technology in the workplace.
