Envisioning the Future of Battlespace Awareness

AFEI is hosting an event bringing together key government and industry leaders together to discuss the future of Battlespace Awareness.  They will address National priorities and DoD and Intelligence Community initiatives for evolving our Battlespace awareness systems to meet the requirements.

Purpose


To discuss future platforms, sensors, systems, the Joint Information Environment (JIE), the Intelligence Community Information Technology Environment (ICITE) and the government/industry partnership needed to advance our capabilities in this critical domain.


A Senior panel of DoD and IC ISR leaders will discuss:

  • Future Battlespace Awareness requirements and initiatives
  • Who the key players are
  • What challenges they face to implement new capabilities
  • How they are working together to deliver future capabilities
  • How to take advantage of exploding commercial IT
  • Where industry fits and what it can contribute

The session gives these leaders the opportunity to interact with industry to discuss their needs and what industry partners must do to support the achievement of their objectives.


Background



Battlespace Awareness is the ability to understand dispositions and intentions, as well as the characteristics and conditions, of the operational environment.  It leverages all sources of information to include Intelligence, Surveillance, Reconnaissance, Meteorological, and Oceanographic.


The threat to national security has been evolving rapidly and will continue to transform and our intelligence, reconnaissance, surveillance systems must evolve to meet the changing nature of the threat. 


Discussion will address several initiatives targeted at increasing the effectiveness of the Battlespace Awareness including future platforms, sensors, commercial IT advances, and enterprise initiatives including such initiatives as the Joint Information Environment (JIE), Intelligence Community Information Technology Enterprise (ICITE) and the Defense Intelligence Information Enterprise (DI2E).
