Marine Law Enforcement

The 27th Annual Marine Law Enforcement Conference is a program designed to support continuing education and training, information sharing and technology transfer. Conference agenda items are specifically tailored for police officers and U.S. Coast Guard personnel with a marine area of responsibility.

Marine law enforcement officers in attendance will be broken up into small groups, ensuring an intimate and interactive setting as critical skills are taught and/or reinforced. Attendees will be given training and instruction in the following fields:

  • The Washington Common Operating Picture (WACOP)
  • Boating Under the Influence Policy Evaluation
  • Washington State Boating Accident Data, Reports and Analysis
  • NASBLA Maritime Pro caucus
  • The Effects of Cold Water Injuries
  • Successes and Challenges of USCG Sector Puget Sound

The 27th Annual Marine Law Enforcement Conference will be attended by marine police units from across the State of Washington, from the bustling seaports of Seattle and Tacoma to the tranquil rivers and lakes of Walla Walla and Spokane. This year's conference is once again open to marine law enforcement agencies outside of the State of Washington. The training and best practices received during this multi-day event are easily exportable to jurisdictions in other states. Last year's program drew attendees from Idaho, California, District of Columbia, and the Turks & Caicos Islands. This conference is a perfect opportunity to interact with fellow law enforcement officers from across the region and beyond.

For the first time ever, the 27th Annual Marine Law Enforcement Conference will be offering Enhanced Vessel Operator Courses. Modeled after the course developed and perfected by NASBLA (National Association of State Boatling Law Administrators), the Enhanced Vessel Operator Courses will teach students the intricacies of team coordination and vessel intercepts, pursuits, shadowing, and herding. This course is intense and designed for sworn officers and USCG personnel with over 6 months of boat handling experience. Upon completion of the course, all students will receive NASBLA certification.
