Career Discovery in Cyber Security: A Women's Symposium
Use Code MIL50 when registering for $50 off the professional registration fee
It's a full day of hands-on learning, speed mentoring, network sessions and “day in the life” talks. Female leaders from the field will be presenting and mentoring. Attendees will also have the opportunity to network with our sponsors over lunch.
The event is designed for mid-career professionals who are thinking about switching tracks, university students choosing a direction, and high school seniors exploring options.
Why focus on women?
The complexity and importance of cyber security is constantly accelerating. It’s a field that needs brilliant minds on its side, and many of the brilliant minds available are to be found among women. As long as women are underrepresented in cyber security, we believe the whole will suffer.
The problem is that in male-dominated industries, women face distinct obstacles that, for some, are enough to prevent them from entering the conversation.
These obstacles can be overcome. According to our research, several factors prove instrumental to helping women (especially young women) remain engaged in computer science, build their confidence and inspire them to bring their voices to the table. Successful programs:
- Are designed specifically for women
- Involve female mentorship and collaboration
- Raise awareness of stereotype threat
- Promote understanding and confidence
- Offer opportunities to practice skills and develop friendships
There’s more to this field than you might think
Part of our mission is to introduce you to the many possible shapes a cyber security career can take. It’s a lot more than just CSI and white knights. There’s a plethora of different tracks and industries where your talent can make a difference.
For example, information security officers work in almost every industry, exercising broad authority to support the overall security of their organization. Malware analysts identify emerging viruses as they’re discovered, then design and develop software to create new defenses against them. Cyber security attorneys specialize in compliance, litigation over breaches of data or privacy, liability counsel and corporate governance.
That’s just the beginning. Join us at our next Symposium and discover the possibilities.
