Leave and Telework as Reasonable Accommodations for Federal Employees

Leave and telework are complex forms of accommodation that cause a lot of agency confusion — and that has led to increasing EEOC decisions favoring the employee. Start reversing the trend with guidance from Joseph Kaplan, an attorney who regularly represents employees and labor unions. He’ll use his insights from “the other side” to guide you in:

  • Recognizing when leave and telework are appropriate accommodations
  • Knowing which questions should be considered in assessing whether to grant leave or telework
  • Identifying the medical documentation your agency can request
  • Evaluating when granting leave or telework would create an undue hardship

Plus, Mr. Kaplan will clear up other areas of common confusion such as:

  • When you can request updated medical information in support of continued telework
  • Whether telework can be denied simply because the agency doesn't have an official telework program
  • If leave can be a reasonable accommodation even if the employee has exhausted his leave balances
  • And more!

You’ll learn about the latest EEOC case law and how to apply it to your employees’ situations — so you make supportable decisions!
