2011 Southern Region IPMA-HR Conference

The Kentucky Chapter IPMA-HR is delighted to extend an invitation for you to join us at the 2011 Southern Region IPMA-HR Conference, April 17-20, 2011 in exciting Louisville, Kentucky.  Derby festivities begin on April 16, 2011, so Louisville will be a buzz of activity during this time.

The conference theme is “HR – Racing to the Future.” The Program Committee chose this theme to design a program in which participants can learn strategies for dealing with emerging challenges of managing human capital as well as techniques on how to improve their own performance.  We are also approaching this conference with a mind to the benefits of renewal and recycling.  In these challenging times, how can HR professionals rely on each other for the renewal of energy and the reaping of our collective knowledge for the recycling of ideas and methods to not only sustain ourselves, but thrive in today’s economic environment?

Toward that end, the agenda topics were carefully selected to offer a program of timely, meaningful educational sessions, a purpose for which the Association was founded.  Sessions will be conducted by practitioners with proven speaking ability and will include practical, immediately applicable work tools. Topics include:

· HR benchmarking and best practices

· Converting negative feelings and thoughts into fuel that will benefit you and your organization

· Identifying key demographic, technological, cultural and workplace trends and developing strategies for maximizing their use in your agency

· Using emotional intelligence in facing setbacks and overcoming them

· Legal positions on HR issues such as background checks, furloughs and layoffs, and workplace violence

· Leadership

· Understanding H1B visa certification and how to successfully navigate the application process

· Identifying, understanding, accepting, and effectively dealing with diverse people

· Understanding the health care reform and its impact on public sector employers

· Behavioral interviewing

· Understanding the concept and practice of resiliency and how it can assist in coping with the stressful, do-more-with-less work environment

· Understanding the US Department of Veterans Affairs’ VetSuccess program and its advantages in times of dramatically reduced staffing levels
