Cascadia Conference on Dialogue & Deliberation

Our Portland gathering on November 13th will bring together leaders, public engagement practitioners, philanthropists, academics, students and citizen groups from across the Cascadia region (Washington, Oregon and British Columbia).

Participants will:

  • Create a learning community to explore what quality public engagement is and how we can create more of it
  • Meet and network with others interested in public engagement
  • Share what kinds of quality public engagement are happening in the region and what we are learning
  • Discover ways we can support another in allowing quality public engagement to flourish here

If you're interested in dialogue and deliberation, join us for this conference! NCDD is known for its highly participatory events and amazing attendees, and this gathering will be no exception.

Our Sponsors for the Portland NCDD event include Healthy Democracy Oregon, Active Voice, AmericaSpeaks, the Citizens in Charge Foundation, the National Conference of State Legislatures, Everyday Democracy, the Public Conversations Project, PMLINK 360, Public Agenda, Democrasoft, and the University of Mass. Boston’s Office of Public Collaboration (MODR). Sponsoring at the Partner level are the IAP2 Cascade Chapter, the Policy Consensus Initiative, Countywide Community Forums of King County, and the Co-Intelligence Institute. Scroll down to learn more about all our Sponsors and Partners.

With the increase in national and local attention to more open, participatory governance and community problem-solving, we are focusing in on three critical topic areas:

  • Quality Public Engagement: What is quality public engagement and how do we educate others about it so it becomes broadly adopted?
  • Online Engagement: How can online technology enhance public engagement?
  • Collaborations that Work: How can we strengthen connections between public administrators, engagement practitioners and the public?

The event will focus on connecting regional leaders (and future leaders!) to explore practical strategies for successful public engagement, and to help build knowledge and capacity around these three topics.
