Contracting for Efficiency

FEMP offers new eTraining on Federal Energy-Efficient Procurement

The U.S. Department of Energy (DOE) Federal Energy Management Program (FEMP) presents the new eTraining course, Contracting for Efficiency.

This course offers federal contracting officers a concise introduction to the the process of procuring energy-efficient products and includes actionable guidance as it applies throughout the contracting process. Federal buyers are required to purchase energy-efficient products by statute and executive order. This course provides a detailed overview and guidance for meeting and benefitting from federal energy-efficient procurement requirements.

By completing this course, learners will be able to:

  • Understand the benefits of energy-efficient product procurement
  • Understand federal requirements to purchase energy-efficient products
  • Identify covered product categories subject to efficiency requirements in product and service contracts
  • Write compliant contracts that effectively communicate efficiency requirements to vendors
  • Verify the delivery of energy-efficient products
  • Utilize FEMP and ENERGY STAR web material to support these activities

The instructor for this course Christopher Payne, PhD, Research Scientist and Department Head for the Building and Industrial Applications Department at Lawrence Berkeley National Laboratory.
