Ask the CIO: Online Chat with John Owens, U.S. Patent and Trademark Office

John Owens, the chief information officer of the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office in the Commerce Department, joins Federal News Radio for a free online chat.

Owens will take part in the online chat after his Oct. 12 appearance on Federal News Radio’s Ask the CIO program on 1500 AM in the Washington metro area and online everywhere.

Owens discusses how the USPTO is using agile and dev/ops to modernize the agency’s mission critical systems while ensuring the data in those systems are secure. USPTO has been on an eight-year journey to improve its Patent End-to-End system and its Trademark Next Generation platform.

Owens details how the agency tests software iterations through automated tools, and how security is embedded at the beginning of the development process.

During the chat, you can ask questions live or submit them in advance by emailing moderator, Executive Editor Jason Miller.
