AFCEA Silicon Valley: The New Energy Cyber-Physical Security Model

In the rush towards electricity grid modernization, a door of opportunity has been opened. Originally, our electric grid was managed using well-secured manual controls run by on-site teams of engineers working around the clock. As the underlying technologies matured, remote monitoring and control of the electrical grid was implemented using SCADA standards. Today, control mechanisms have migrated to the Internet which many experts believe puts the grid at risk from hacking.

This session will cover the shift from the original analog system to the current Internet-enabled system and beyond, with emphasis on secure control through the use of secure hardware along with possible methods of risk mitigation.
