B.L.A.C.K. Collaborative Leadership Skills Training

The five pillars of the B.L.A.C.K Collaborative Leadership Skills Training method are discussed during this 2-day course.  Companies, groups and teams of people manifest the same characteristics as individuals and therefore, experience the same problems, albeit on a different scale.  Results driven, “the bottom line” and ICT are the key words within which any (major) organization operates these days.  Even though people are considered the most important asset, in general, we seem to misplace the personal touch due to the pressures of results minded actions.  This course focuses on group dynamics and interaction up and down the chain-of-command and laterally with co-workers.  It helps attendees conduct a very honest self-assessment of what makes them “tick” and how they react to certain stimuli by using the Mc Clelland “Iceberg Model” of needs behavior.  By acknowledging their own behavior traits leaders gain confidence in their abilities to motivate team members towards greater things.  Leadership is not about “being in-charge”.  It’s about taking charge when required and being part of a team with a common goal when not.  The importance of being able to switch from follower to leader and back again is essential.  That’s what collaborative leadership is all about.

B.L.A.C.K. trains attendees to draw on internal resources to get the best results out of circumstances that are often out of their immediate control and manifest themselves in a less than desirable and negative manner.  Additionally, the Rose of Leary is used to identify which phase of aggression a person is in and how to interact in a non-aggressive/non-combative way.  By doing so it assists with developing effective communication skills within an organization regardless of the positon or title of the individual.  By combining these concepts, upon returning to their places of work, attendees will be able to “take charge” when necessary or be an active and supportive team member when not. Since B.L.A.C.K. is structured to help the individual identify his or her character traits, the training does not need to be reestablished each time there is a change in organizational structure or roles within an organization.  Once the investment is made it continues with the individual throughout their career.

The five components that make up the B.L.A.C.K. synonym are: B – Behavior (learning one’s own leadership style to become more effective in creating team efficiency), L – Learning (developing tactical and strategic skills for interacting with people and confronting emergent issues), A – Assertive (taking decisive actions without “confrontation or aggression”), C – Contact (creating positive connections, regardless of how abhorrent the situation) and, K – Knowledge (having confidence that your skill sets are adequate for every situation, whether routine or outside the norm).
