Developing and Implementing an Outward Mindset

Many organizations struggle with challenges like weak individual performance, lack of accountability, ineffective leadership, poor teamwork, interpersonal conflict, and functional silos. The common approach is to roll out new training initiatives, incentives, or other measures to get people to behave differently.

What organizations don’t realize is that the real problem is not how people are behaving. It’s deeper than that. The problem is that employees often unknowingly work with an “inward mindset”—focused inwardly on their own, personal objectives.

Organizations can only resolve these problems and achieve breakthrough results by maximizing the extent to which their employees work with an “outward mindset”—taking into account their impact on others and focusing on the needs of the organization as a whole.

Arbinger's one-day workshop will help the participants understand why we default to the self-focus of an inward mindset as well as help them shift to the others-inclusive results-focus of an outward mindset.

Developing and Implementing an Outward Mindset equips participants with a set of self-awareness tools, mindset-change tools, accountability tools, and collaboration tools that enable them to:

• Understand the two mindsets and their implications on results
• Assess the extent to which they are working with an inward mindset
• Change their mindsets to become more outward
• Re-conceive their jobs to make them more outward
• Hold themselves more fully accountable
• Report on performance in a way that keeps them working outward
• Work in a way that is more collaborative, fulfilling, and effective
• Positively influence others to change
• Address and resolve conflicts

The Program is also designed to address each of the Office of Personnel Management Executive Core Qualifications in specific ways.

Day at NASA Langley Research Center  

Join us at NASA Langley Research Center as we continue our journey into professional growth.   We will hear from several NASA Leaders as they discuss major change initiatives ongoing within their Center and Agency.  Topics to be covered include overviews of their business portfolio, efforts within NASA to streamline business functions, and change management initiatives at Langley to modernize and transform the entire Center’s operating environment.   We will also have a speed peer mentoring session where you will be able to network with leaders from NASA and collaborate on topics relevant to executives.  We will close the day with a tour of the NASA facility at Langley.
