Cybersecurity for Local Government

As seen in recent news reports, local governments are tempting targets for cybercriminals. The vital services they provide make them vulnerable to insidious ransomware and other attacks that can shut down a local government’s operations (including emergency services), steal citizen data, and freeze an entire computer system.

Cyber Florida has partnered with the University of South Florida's School of Public Administration, the Florida League of Cities, the Florida City and County Management Association, the Florida Association of Counties, and the Florida Local Government Information Systems Association to host a series of workshops throughout Florida to help local government leaders learn ways to improve their jurisdiction's cybersecurity posture.

During the Cybersecurity for Local Government workshops, attendees will:

  • Hear directly from public sector leaders who have dealt with cyberattacks
  • Learn best practices to establish a cyber-secure culture
  • Gain an understanding of the current cybersecurity legal landscape
  • Participate in an intense, simulated cyberattack on a fictitious local government, and more!

Who should attend: City and county managers and their department heads, elected officials, and others interested in local government’s unique cybersecurity challenges, including leaders of public interest and citizen groups, academics, and students. (Note: These workshops are non-technical and not intended for IT directors or IT staff.)

Cost: There is no cost to attend, but space is limited. Refreshments and lunch provided.

Questions: Email info@cyberflorida.org.
