AWS Virtual Workshop - Amazon DynamoDB Data Modeling Deep Dive
Amazon DynamoDB is a key-value and document database service that delivers single-digit-millisecond performance at any scale. It's a fully managed, multi-region, multi-master, durable database with built-in security, backup and restore, and in-memory caching for internet-scale applications. DynamoDB can handle more than 10 trillion requests per day and can support peaks of more than 20 million requests per second.
Join us for this two-week series to dive deeper into DynamoDB data modeling. You will learn how to reduce design requirements to fundamental building blocks, and you will better understand the decisions and tradeoffs made when building efficient data models. You'll also learn how the new NoSQL Workbench for DynamoDB facilitates an iterative design process.
Advanced Design Patterns for DynamoDB
June 3, 1:00–2:30 PM PT | 4:00–5:30 PM ET
Data modeling for DynamoDB is very different from data modeling for databases you may have worked with in the past. The ideal design of a DynamoDB database stores answers for all of your application's questions in advance. Veteran reviewers of real-world DynamoDB implementations will show you a design approach to quickly converge to the right model for your use case. Mechanisms will be presented to help optimize latency, scalability, and efficiency. You'll work through exercises to see how choices made in modeling your data can affect the application.
What you learn in Episode 1:
- Reduce design requirements to a clear understanding of your related data: items, item collections, and access patterns
- Develop an indexing strategy to efficiently cover those requirements at scale
- Apply the DynamoDB APIs in example code to see how data model choices affect operations
Who should attend: Developers, Engineers, and Database Administrators who are involved in designing and maintaining DynamoDB applications.
Prerequisites: Your own nonproduction AWS account with administrator access.
Speakers: AWS Solutions Architect Pete Naylor | AWS Solutions Architect Robert McCauley
NoSQL Workbench for DynamoDB
June 10, 1:00–2:30 PM PT | 4:00–5:30 PM ET
NoSQL Workbench for DynamoDB is a client-side desktop application that is designed to aid data modeling and simplify query development for DynamoDB. NoSQL Workbench helps you design and visualize data models; build and execute queries and other data operations on your DynamoDB tables in your AWS account or a local DynamoDB instance; and generate sample code in Python, JavaScript, and Java. DynamoDB experts will help you work through data-model design scenarios using NoSQL Workbench.
What you learn in Episode 2:
- About the features and functionality in NoSQL Workbench
- How to use NoSQL Workbench to design and visualize a data model in DynamoDB
- How to use the operation builder in NoSQL Workbench to build and run queries and other data operations in DynamoDB
Who should attend: Developers, Engineers, and Database Administrators who are involved in designing and maintaining DynamoDB applications
Prerequisites: Your own nonproduction AWS account with administrator access and a local NoSQL Workbench for DynamoDB installation.
Speakers: AWS Solutions Architect Sean Shriver | AWS Sr. Practice Manager Rick Houlihan
