Splunking your Data

Machine-generated data is one of the fastest growing and complex areas of big data. It's also one of the most valuable, containing a definitive record of all user transactions, customer and machine behavior, security threats, user activity, and much more.

Join us as we explore the basics of machine data analysis and highlight techniques to help you turn your organization’s machine data into actionable insights. You will be introduced to the Splunk Processing Language (SPL), create analytics, reports and dashboards as we explore some web server logs. Learn how to investigate, analyze, monitor, and alert on activity found in your machine data. This introductory workshop is a hands-on (bring your laptop) demonstration of Splunk’s technology and covers use cases both inside and outside IT. Learn how you can use Splunk to discover insights across mission, government, and education.

Training Goals: The goal of this training is to familiarize attendees with the Splunk Platform and applicable use cases that can be leveraged In their day-to-day operations. The audience will see first-hand how to investigate, monitor, analyze and act on data. Finally, we will look at ways to GEO enable data that might not contain such information and begin to visualize this data. Demonstrations will be provided throughout the training. At the end of the training students will be instructed how to download a copy of Splunk for their own use.
