FCW Workshop: Health IT

This event qualifies for 2 CPEs

If there was ever a question about the role of information technology in healthcare, the COVID-19 pandemic has answered it emphatically. Quickly analyzing large data sets and mapping the locations of cases around the world requires scale and power.

Federal hospital systems (VA, Indian Health and Military Health System) are large users of the technology and the Department of Health and Human Services and its research centers fund research on a number of critical applications of emerging technology projects in the world of infectious disease. With the timeline for new vaccines and testing capabilities shrinking, what can we learn about the new applications of machine learning and artificial intelligence to fight this new disease and the ones yet to come?

In this workshop, learn how new technologies are transforming health initiatives and the challenges that scientists, physicians and program owners are addressing.

Topics to be addressed include:

  • Using health data for longitudinal studies to trace vulnerabilities and improve treatment
  • How the delayed roll-out of VA’s EHR program will adjust to the pandemic timeline and what to expect going forward
  • The use of machine learning to mine health records for discovering new signs of undetected diseases and the use of blockchain to protect them
  • Leveraging artificial intelligence and machine learning to quickly scan lung scans and radiology images
  • How AI and machine learning can be used to scan current medications for properties that may help fight COVID-19
