Expanding Virginia Exports to Korea

The KORUS-FTA is a cost-free stimulus deal that will create American jobs, generate exports, and grow the economy. According to the US-Korea Business Council, passage of the trade agreement will create 280,000 American jobs, including 11,000 in Virginia, and increase GDP by $27 billion. The U.S. International Trade Commission has estimated that the agreement will generate an $11 billion increase in U.S. merchandise exports, while by all estimates U.S. service industries will benefit by the new opportunities in what is already the second-largest market in Asia for U.S. service exports.

This conference represents a practical approach to achieve President Obama’s goal of doubling exports under the National Export Initiative. By bringing together such a wide-range of public and private sector participation, along with bi-partisan congressional support, the 2011 Access to Success conference serves as a prelude to what we need to do when the KORUS-FTA is fully implemented. This conference will serve as a platform to create the linkages that will help our small businesses access the full array of private and public sector resources to ensure sustainable economic growth for America and the Commonwealth of Virginia.
