Leading Security Practices for Migrating to AWS

According to the Harvey Nash / KPMG CIO Survey 2020, 47 percent of over 4,200 global IT leaders feel the pandemic has permanently accelerated digital transformation and the adoption of emergent technologies, particularly those that enhance customer experiences.

The cloud is the digital backbone and infrastructure for transformation and technologies, however adopting the cloud requires a careful consideration of cyber security and compliance. Critical assets—applications, data, and ultimately the business, must be protected. The survey found that companies are making cyber security a top investment priority, but skills remain a challenge. For the first time in the report's 22-year history cyber security expertise has become the most in-demand skill set.

Leading cloud providers such as Amazon Web Services (AWS) are built for large-scale elasticity, stability, and security, however companies must evolve their cybersecurity practices to:

  • Comply with complex laws, rules, and regulations about types of customer data stored in the cloud
  • Ensure the confidentiality, integrity, and availability of business-critical applications
  • Respond to and recover successfully from security, privacy, or resiliency incidents
  • Maintain strong, consistent security across data centers and public clouds.

In this discussion, a panel of experienced leaders will highlight some of the common challenges, along with perspectives and leading practices that you could apply in your cloud journey.
