USPTO CIO Jamie Holcombe and Product Line Leaders  to update industry on the progress of modernization efforts and its Agile transformation along product lines.   

To satisfy new customer demands, the United States Patent and Trademark Office (USPTO) embarked on an organizational transformation to change how they deliver enterprise IT.  This journey encompasses the New Ways of Working (NWOW) and new, scaled Agile practices with a focus on customer value. 

The transformation revolves around three key efforts – stabilization, modernization, and NWOW; and the agency has selected four Product Line Leaders to ensure that the agency’s IT systems are future-proof and ready for NextGen delivery.  The USPTO’s four Product Lines (Patents, Trademarks, Enterprise Business, and Enterprise Infrastructure) include over 30 products in the agency’s IT portfolio. By leveraging Agile, DevSecOps, Human Centered Design (HCD), automation, and performance best practices, the USPTO will realize new IT efficiencies for enterprise value.

ACT-IAC is excited to have Infrastructure Product Line Leader, Bob Simms, share progress made in stabilizing and modernizing the organization’s technical backbone. Mr. Simms brings over 22 years of experience to USPTO and has been instrumental in USPTO’s adoption of DevSecOps practices, increasing the agency’s virtualization footprint through Internal and External Cloud expansion, increasing Automation capabilities, Establishing Role Based Access, and migrating to Office 365 (O365) cloud.  

Joining Mr. Holcombe and Mr. Simms is Enterprise Business Product Line Leader, Carol Stout, who will share updates on her product portfolio consisting of over 100 applications that support various common USPTO business value streams: financial, travel, acquisition, budgeting, staffing, learning, property, legal, communications, customer experience, and data analytics.
