10:45 am Concurrent Sessions

Cloud Computing - Technologies and Opportunities

Cloud computing is a concept that covers a lot of ground, ranging from external web-based applications and services to customized private clouds. It seems that just about any service can be offered in the "cloud" including storage, applications, email, maintenance and development. This session discusses options, technologies and opportunities.

Mobile Technologies in the Workplace

We live in a wireless world and the demand will clearly grow exponentially in the years ahead. Where is the industry headed? What are the new capabilities and capacities on the horizon? What should you take into account when developing and evaluating systems and applications? This session focuses on the present and future of wireless technologies and the impact on your IT organization.

Lou Dauten, Government Data Solutions Manager, Verizon Wireless

Terry Lowe, Systems Coordinator, Information Services, Lincoln/Lancaster County

IT Governance and Portfolio Management

With higher and higher levels of scrutiny being placed on IT projects, ad-hoc methods of project delivery will no longer work. IT departments are challenged to deliver solutions that are relevant, and to deliver those solutions on time and within budget. IT governance and portfolio management principles are the keys to success. This session will provide practical tips on how to implement an IT governance and portfolio management structure, and some pitfalls to avoid.

Enterprise Content Management in Nebraska

Content is the most important asset of a government organization and perhaps its greatest responsibility. Content Management enables organizations to contend with information across the enterprise while automating and streamlining business processes. It is especially essential in maintaining and updating websites. This session will discuss the benefits and strategies of the current Enterprise Content Management system being used by the state of Nebraska and as well as a discussion on "how to" use this service in your organization.

Security Update: Cyber and Web 2.0 Threats

This presentation will provide an updated overview of some of the latest cyber and Web 2.0 security threats with current examples from the public and private sector. You will also learn what solutions are available to prepare for, respond to, and mitigate those threats. The remainder of the presentation will cover security ramifications of social networks and collaboration in general across the internet and what you need to do in order to protect your organization from a security breach.

Social Media in Government

Social networking tools offer tremendous possibilities while at the same time opening the door to a variety of challenges and concerns. Benefits include cost efficiencies, advances in customer relationship management, and new levels of citizen engagement. Challenges include security, privacy, retention and content control. This session takes a close look at the factors involved in making the business case for social media in government.

3:00 pm Afternoon Break

3:20 pm Concurrent Sessions

Multi-Generational Workforce

The workforce and the organizational culture are changing. Baby boomers have been the dominant voice of the workforce. As they begin retiring, the workforce is shifting to a multigenerational workforce. GenXers and Millennials are moving in and up the organization as Baby Boomers leave. These generations are now working alongside each other, bringing different work ethics, work styles, and motivations to the government work place. What are the characteristics of the different generations? What does it take to motivate and reward the multigenerational workforce? What role does Human Resources play in recruiting the next generation worker? This session will explore these questions.

Virtualization Trends Update

Desktop and server virtualization may not be brand new concepts, but tremendous strides have been made in recent years. As a result, governments are increasingly turning to virtualization to reduce expenses and increase the efficiency of deployment, security, maintenance, support and continuity. This session focuses on the latest trends, approaches and tools.

Disaster Recovery and Business Continuity: Lessons learned from the Lincoln Public School District Office Fire

The recent fire at City of Lincoln's Public School District Office was one of the most damaging fires in recent history. The impact on IT operations was equally devastating. Disaster recovery and restoring IT services became an unprecedented challenge. What are the lessons that can be learned from the work that has been done to recover from this disaster? How do you stay focused to move forward and move on? In this session, Kirk Langer, Director of Technology, for the Lincoln Public School District Office will discuss how he worked through the challenges created by the fire and the changes that have implemented as a result.
