4th Annual Information Technology Expo - JBER



The 4th Annual Information Technology Expo for Joint Base Elmendorf-Richardson (JBER) will be hosted by the Armed Forces Communications & Electronics Association (AFCEA)- Alaska Chapter. AFCEA is a non-profit membership association serving the military, government, industry, and academia as an ethical forum for advancing professional knowledge and relationships in the fields of communications, IT, intelligence, and global security.

About Joint Base Elmendorf-Richardson (JBER)

Elmendorf Air Force Base and Fort Richardson Army Post is officially now a joint base. The transition to Joint Base Elmendorf-Richardson (JBER) began January 31, 2009 and was fully united by October 2010. Its mission is to support and defend U.S. interests in the Asia Pacific region and around the world by providing units who are ready for worldwide air power projection and a base that is capable of meeting PACOM's theater staging and throughput requirements.

It is the home of the Headquarters, Alaskan Command (ALCOM), Alaskan NORAD Region (ANR), Joint Task Force-Alaska (JTF-AK), Eleventh Air Force (11 AF), the 673d Air Base Wing, United States Army Alaska (USARAK) the 176th Wing and other Tenant Units.

About JBER IT Components

The 673rd Communications Squadron provides base-wide service and guidance for all communications and computer systems requirements. The 611 ACOMS serves as the focal point for all command, control, communications, and computers (C4) support for ANR and 11 AF. Key functions include theater long-haul communications, radar systems communications, circuit management, network operations and configuration control. Additionally, the unit performs Meteorological Navigational (METNAV) certifications for airfields throughout the theater, as well as Defense Red Switch Network, Communications Security (COMSEC) and frequency spectrum management support. In addition to providing communications planning and programming support to the three O&M contracts, the 611 ACOMS also manages $22 million in communications requirements. The 611 ACOMS also provides direct communications support to the 611 AOC - 24/7 battle staff crisis action operation center.

The mission of the 59th Signal Battalion is to provide responsive and reliable strategic C4 and sustaining base information systems support to United States Army Alaska (USARAK), Missile Defense Agency (MDA), and other tenant organizations in Alaska. They also serve as the proponent for information services policy and programs. DOIM and strategic signal services are provided for all U.S Army units in Alaska. The unit consists of HHD, 59th Signal Battalion at Fort Richardson (FRA), the 507th Signal Company at Fort Wainwright (FWA), and a DOIM Detachment at Fort Greely (FGA).
