Reduce EMI in Switched-Mode Power Supply Design

Switched-mode power supply (SMPS) design is rapidly evolving with the emergence of wide bandgap semiconductors such as silicon carbide (SiC) and gallium nitride (GaN) power devices.

New advancement in SMPS design will result in greater power efficiency, increased power density, smaller size, and lower cost in the long run. Higher switching speeds enable power converters to utilize smaller and lighter magnetics such as transformers and capacitors.

However, these higher switching speeds along with the layout of a printed circuit board becomes a source of electromagnetic interference (EMI). This is a design challenge that frustrates many power electronics designers since it typically shows up late in the prototype stage.

To overcome this challenge, the designer must be able to identify potential EMI problems in simulation. Until now, this type of simulation requires expertise in electromagnetics and knowledge of how to use an electromagnetic field solver. In this webinar, we will discuss how to overcome this challenge via post-layout simulation using Keysight's power electronics simulation software.

In this webinar you will learn about:

  • EMI challenges in switched-mode power supply design
  • post-layout simulation in design workflow
  • how to detect EMI problems early with Keysight’s Power Electronics Pro
