Crime and Punishment: Exploring Restorative Justice and Peacemaking



Courts and agencies are increasingly looking for different ways to address crimes/delinquent acts and sentencing.  Many restorative justice and peacemaking programs have been created in an effort to improve upon traditional practices for addressing perpetrators and victims.  But what is restorative justice? What is Peacemaking? How do they differ from traditional court practices?  What are the advantages and disadvantages?  Join attorney, mediator, and educator Margaret Crowley for an exploration of these dynamic topics.

Speaker and Presenter Information

Margaret Crowley, Esq. is the owner of Crowley Mediation, a firm providing mediation services for a range of issues from custody to business to eldercare and adult family disputes.  Her firm also provides training and continuing education in beginning and advanced mediation, workplace conflict skills and offers customized classes. She has been licensed to practice law in Nevada since 1991. For over 15 years, Margaret served as a Civil Deputy District Attorney for Washoe County (Reno), Nevada. During that time, she practiced in multiple areas, including labor/employment law, contract law, litigation and administrative law, and in multiple settings such as mediations, arbitrations, administrative hearings and state and federal courts. Margaret has extensive training and experience as a mediator, enabling her to use her expertise in conflict resolution to help people define and resolve issues. Margaret has mediated approximately 1,000 cases in a wide variety of areas.
