Solutions to Deepening Equity Issues in the Teacher Shortage

It is even more difficult to address equity when most schools and districts have teacher shortages. Teachers are also getting lost toggling between the “going back to normal” and their previous hybrid curriculum, making help for emergent bilingual learners another task to fit in to increased complexities in the classroom. With Learning Counsel research indicating American schools will be short just under a million teachers come Fall of 2022, a quarter of the estimated needed workforce, now is the time to discuss what to do about equity, and do it with more relevancy, despite these issues.
