EMS Combat Systems Life Cycle Management Conference

This conference will examine how systems that use the EMS can be better integrated with the combat system; more efficiently sustained and upgraded; and the strategies that provide a way ahead.

Today’s EW combat systems are expensive and likely to remain in the DoD’s inventory longer as downturned budgets struggle to procure replacement systems. To ensure these systems remain effective, both performance insertion and cost reduction will be critically important to EW’s future. This conference will discuss in depth how all three Services and other DoD agencies insert performance enhancements into legacy systems. We will discuss cost reduction concepts including combat systems integration, and use, as a case study, the Navy’s new product-line approach to improve the vertical integration of its EW systems.

We encourage you to participate in this conference and receive several perspectives on how DoD systems are sustained, to include how combat systems integration, and other initiatives can help the EW mission. We need these perspectives to not only survive in a challenging fiscal environment, but also help EW missions contribute more to our critical national defense mission.

Specific Topics Include:

  • Industry support to EW sustainment
  • EW sustainment for Navy Crane Maritime, Air Force, Navy Aviation
  • Dahlgren working capital fund for equipment sustainment
  • Real time spectrum operations and operational testing
  • Framework for assessing cost and technology (FACT)
  • Next generation submarine EW system architecture
  • DoD strategies to decouple EMS/EW combat systems from platforms
  • Combat systems spiral development/Aegis combat systems baseline (ACB)
  • Government and industrial training to sustain EW systems
  • Commercial life cycle electronics education

WHO SHOULD ATTEND

US ONLY Military, Government, and Government Contractors

Tour the Naval Surface Warfare Center Dahlgren Division (NSWCDD) on July 19th!!

What you'll see on the tour...

  • Electromagnetic (EM) Railgun See the efforts that are going towards developing the U.S. Navy's most advanced long-range weapon that fires projectiles using electricity instead of chemical propellants.
  • Directed Energy To address many of the challenges presented to our warfighters, development of this technology is the main focus. Recent developments by their teams of scientists & engineers in High Energy Laser, High Power Microwave, & Counter-Improvised Explosive Device prototype systems have demonstrated military utility in the laboratory, in field exercises at DOD test ranges, & in operational deployments.
  • Electronic Warfare You'll get an overview of the Surface EW efforts being supported & the EW Test Facility.
  • Electromagnetic Environmental Effects (E3) An opportunity to view many E3 test facilities that evaluate various warfare systems with respect to EMS environments, including Ground Planes, Anechoic Chambers, Reverberation Chambers, etc. Typical testing conducted in these facilities would be Electromagnetic Interference (EMI), Electromagnetic Vulnerability (EMV) and Hazards of Electromagnetic Radiation to Ordnance (HERO).
  • Potomac River Test Range- Main Gun Line Demonstrations of a gun mount/house.
  • Integrated Warfare Systems Laboratory Not only a supporting role for NSWCDD in generating, maintaining, updating & certifying Aegis Combat System computer programs but a high fidelity engineering environment for multiple Navy Programs that continually transforms to meet the needs of the 21st Century Warfighter.
