Tech 101: How the Grid Works

The electrical grid underpins all of the systems that support our lives, but it rarely gets the level of attention it deserves for its role in national security . In this session, Jon Monken will lay out how electricity is generated, moved, and delivered, going deep enough to be genuinely useful rather than a surface-level pass through the basics.

The grid isn't background noise for the Department of War. It's critical infrastructure that every installation, every mission, and every weapons system depends on, and the vulnerabilities aren't hypothetical. Drawing on years of work bridging the energy and national security worlds, Jon will walk through where those vulnerabilities actually sit and what they cost when they're ignored.

This session will highlight what's being done about it right now at the federal level, and where the real gaps still are between what the Department knows and what it's actually doing. A moderated Q&A at the end, pulling questions from the Zoom Q&A box, so attendees should come ready to interact.
