Safe-haven and Shelter Design and Engineering (SAF) – A safe-room is a structure or protected area, that provides protection from man-made or natural threats, for both short and long periods of time. It usually serves as a fall-back position in case of emergencies. Effective design components; i.e., air requirements and waste management, capacity limits, use of electronic media and other technologies will be examined in detail.  DOD requirements are also covered.

Speaker and Presenter Information

Doug is a US Air Force veteran with more than 45 years of law enforcement and security related experience, which includes teaching building design principles to architects, engineers, planners and security professional.

 

He’s an active member of the Security Industry Association’s (SIA) Architectural Graphics and CAD Symbols for Security Systems, Physical Security Working Group and RISE Scholarship committees. 

 

He was selected as the Sandra Jones Volunteer of the Year 2016 by SIA for helping shape the Associates of Applied Science Degree Program in Security Systems Technology at Mercer County Community College.

 

He regularly contributes to security publications world-wide and is sought after to speak at international conferences on physical security design principles and antiterrorism mitigation strategies.
