Designing Secure Buildings: Integrating Security Technologies (DSB)– a three-day course designed to familiarize students with design principles used in preventing and detecting criminal activity and reducing the effects of terrorist attack on the safety of personnel and damage to facilities and critical infrastructure. Students will learn to use Crime Prevention through Environmental Design (CPTED) principles to control the exterior of the facility while applying 5 basic strategies to the inhabited space. Specific modules include; Terrorism Ideologies, Security Basics, Philosophies and Design Strategies, Blast Fundamentals, Glazing and Window Systems, Lighting, Vehicle Barrier Selection, Electronic Security System, Perimeter Security, Next Generation Use of Weapons of Mass Destruction and Preserving Historical Buildings. This class concludes with a practical exercise which allows students to work together using the principles and concepts they’ve just learned. (UFC-Minimum Antiterrorism Standards for DOD Buildings equivalent)

Speaker and Presenter Information

Doug is a career security professional.  He retired from active duty with the US Air Force in 1993. He spent the next 20 years working for the U.S. Government, primarily overseas in Europe.  He has over 45 years experience in conducting physical security vulnerability assessments and risk analysis.  Considered an expert within the security industry he’s been  teaching physical security engineering standards to architects, engineers, planners,

facility managers, security professionals and others involved in developing mitigation strategies and building design planning around-the-globe.
