In pre-pandemic life, just 22 percent of federal employees worked remotely in 2019. Last year, by comparison, just one department, Housing and Urban Development, jumped to 90 percent in 2020. This scenario played out across all agencies. Now, with the country working to bring the pandemic to an end, it is unlikely that all employees will return to their offices.

As remote work continues, cybersecurity measures are shifting to protect enterprise resources located outside the central network location. Facilitating the change, the National Institute of Standards and Technology has released Special Publication 800-207, outlining what a proper Zero Trust architecture looks like.
