Workflow Warfare - Bringing AI to DoD's Back Office Functions

The Department of Defense can only transform itself as fast as its slowest workflow. At the foundation of DoD’s various warfare capabilities – including cyber, electronic, and information – is the push to transform its administrative advantage in “Workflow Warfare.”

These elements of warfare are the backend processes that make a large agency run effectively and connect IT, HR, finance, procurement, workplace, and other vital functions. Artificial intelligence, robotic process engineering and more importantly, redesigning processes for maximum efficiency, help to deliver quality outcomes with increased speed and make the job easier.

That is the premise of the Joint AI Center’s Business Process Transformation (BPT) program which is using technology to transform DoD’s business processes to improve efficiency, accuracy and overall operations. Unless this critical aspect of warfighting is transformed, the other critical warfighting capabilities will lose long-term effectiveness and interoperability.
