In this training course, Michael Bourke, Ph.D., PLLC, combines findings from recent research with insights gleaned from his years as a treatment provider and polygraph examiner for the federal prison system and from the more than 13 years he spent as head of the United States Marshals Service’s Behavioral Analysis Unit. After completing this course, participants will more completely understand what motivates sexual violence, the etiology of deviant predilections, diagnostic issues (e.g., paraphilias), the primary motivational pathways underlying sex crimes, and risk-related considerations. With this knowledge, participants will be able to develop best practices and gain additional insight into their professional roles, whether investigating and managing sex offenders or safeguarding potential victims of sexual abuse and exploitation.
