Federal Human Resources Symposium

Please join FPMI and the Federal Management Institute for a Human Resources Symposium.  This one day event will offer a variety of informative sessions geared towards HR professionals.

Human Resources Symposium Sessions

The Practice of HR Consulting w/ Teresa Jenkins
While federal departments and agencies differ as to their missions, they all share the need to accomplish their missions effectively and efficiently with a focus on results. The only way this can happen is with people - employees and prospective employees to carry out the mission. This session will focus on HRs contribution to mission performance through the art of consulting with emphasis on key competencies that will make a difference in how you relate to and advise your customers.

Strategic Recruitment w/ Cheryl Vinci
This interactive session is designed to guide HR professionals in providing consultative advice to selecting officials by exploring hiring flexibilities including the various veterans hiring authorities, the Pathways Programs, and the use of pay setting flexibilities.

Category Rating w/ Steve Nelson

This is an interactive session that will provide some history and some of the science behind the use of category rating as prescribed by the President’s memorandum mandating it for all agencies. Participants will work through exercises to place candidates into categories and to apply veteran’s preference. You will be able to answer WIIFM (what’s in it for me) when discussing it with hiring managers, HR staff, unions and other groups.”

Leadership and High Performance Teams: Strategies, Technologies, and Processes Are Not Enough                                                                                       w/ Allison Johnson

Building trust and a responsibility-based culture is not easy. There are specific components which must be considered and measured in order to build the type of culture needed to efficiently leverage an organization’s technologies, strategic plan and processes. This workshop will examine the benefits of team identity and commitment, the four factors of trust, how leaders derail accountability, and the team structure needed for success. If you wonder, how leaders can best transition from pseudo to real teams and beyond, this workshop is for you.
